Do Portugal passport holders need a visa for Vietnam?
YES. All Portuguese passport holders are required to apply for a visa to enter Vietnam, regardless of their purpose of visit and length of stay in the country.
Portuguese citizens wishing to enter Vietnam also need to ensure the following requirements for entry:
- Their passport must be valid for at least 6 months starting from the date of arrival in Vietnam.
- Their passport must contain at least 2 blank pages to stamp visa.
How to get a Vietnam visa for Portuguese citizens?
There are currently up to 3 ways to apply for a visa to Vietnam for Portuguese passport holders, consisting of:
- Visa on arrival,
- E-visa, and
- visa at the embassy.

Vietnam visa on arrival has been popular with many travelers because of its convenience, simplicity, and time saving.
Citizens of Portugal with a visa on arrival are allowed to enter Vietnam through any international airports such as Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Saigon), Da Nang, Cam Ranh (Nha Trang), Cai Bi (Hai Phong), Can Tho (Can Tho), Lien Khuong (Da Lat) and Phu Quoc (Phu Quoc).
With this type of visa, Portuguese citizens are required to apply online to get the approval letter and they will receive an official visa upon arrival at any Vietnamese international airport.
Note: Vietnam visa on arrival is NOT APPLICABLE for Portuguese travelers to Vietnam by sea and land.
Vietnam visa on arrival fees for Portuguese passport holders:
- Service fee – to be paid online for the visa approval letter, depending on the visa type, number of applicants and the service provider as well.
- Stamping fee – to be paid in cash at Vietnam airport for visa stamping, and to be:
- US $25 for a single entry visa
- US $50 for a multiple entry visa valid for up to 3 months.
Visa at Vietnam embassy
Currently there is no Vietnam Embassy in Portugal, Portuguese passport holders can apply for Vietnam visa through Vietnam Embassy / Consulate in another country. For example, if they are in Spain, they can contact the Vietnam embassy in Madrid to get the visa for Vietnam.

E-visa for Vietnam
Luckily, the holders of Portugal passports can apply for the e-visa to Vietnam. However, this type of visa is available for 30 days only in single entry. In case a longer-term or/and multiple entry visa is required, consider the 2 options above for the visa to Vietnam.
To get a vn e-visa, the Portuguese citizens will need to access to https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt, upload the passport page, photo and complete the form as guided and then get the result of approval or refusal after around 3 working days.
The cost of a e-visa for Vietnam is US $25 and is non-refundable in case the visa application is refused by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
